    1. Jennie Rakowsky had a daughter out of wedlock as a young college student. Unwilling to consider abortion, she went to a home for unwed mothers, had the baby and immediately gave her up for adoption. She then moved forward with her life, putting this difficult time behind her. Now, almost 20 years later she is a successful lawyer and advocate of women's rights and is engaged to be married. Out of the blue she receives a phone call from an agency stating that her daughter would like very much to m [...]

    2. It was surprising that someone as intelligent as Jenny went into a panic because the daughter she placed for adoption 19 years before suddenly found her and she was worried that her fiance, a widower with three small children, wouldn't understand. She went as far as breaking up her relationship rather than having the truth come out. Fortunately, the daughter did not give up so easily and managed to finally bring them all together, including her biological father.

    3. If this had been the first Belva Plain book I had ever read, I certainly wouldn't pick up another. The lead female character was weak and simpering and spent much of her time wailing about her life and not being able to face anything (despite being described throughout the book as a strong women's advocate lawyer) and the plot was predictable and boring. I'm all for a light, guilty pleasure read, but there wasn't any pleasure in this for me, just a lot of eye-rolling.

    4. At thirty-six, Jennie Rakowsky's life couldn't be better. She was engaged to a wonderful man, her career as a lawyer was skyrocketing and she was never more beautiful. Then a secret from nineteen years ago threatened to shatter it all. I really love Belva Plain's books. I think she is a wonderful writer and I give the story an A+! I definitely love books about family relationships rather then straight romance.

    5. Not a bad yarn, but kind of slow-moving (as evidenced by the fact that I kept getting distracted by other books!). An environmental lawyer's daughter - given up for adoption years previously - finds and wants to resume a family relationship with her. The lawyer rejects the relationship because it could create difficulties for her with her fiancee and his family. But the girl's father re-enters her life, and the lawyer must decide which way to turn. Sort of sappy, but worth reading.

    6. Blessings did not push me to the edge of my seat but after more than a decade of having read it, I can still remember some scenarios from the book just because they happen in real life. Belva Plain certainly knows the emotional anatomy of a woman - how clingy to family a woman can get when after exhausting all her strength, she still falls to the cold bed of failure. It's a good enough quick read for me; I can forgive the predictability.

    7. I just could not see Jennie's point of view. I understand wanting to get married, but if she truely loved this man she should have been honest with him. If he leaves you because you told him you had a child, then he isn't in a place to love you forever. She did nothing wrong, committed no crime or sin that would be unacceptable in my opinion, and it was all in the past.

    8. Interesting enough story to keep me reading. Jennie has everything going for her until a secret she has kept for 19 years interrupts her life. Too tidy and abrupt of an ending for me. A secondary story surrounding conservation vs. development case could also have been fleshed out more and again was wrapped up too neatly.

    9. I think this is the last Belva Plain book I will read. I find her stories much the same and I can't get past the lack of morals the characters show. Whether this makes me a prude or not, I'm glad I still think pre-marital relations are inappropriate.

    10. One of Belva Plain's best books. Real life situations, tough real life decision making, reunion, relationships trials and triumphs. Viewing perspectives differently as decades pass. Forgiveness and acceptance.

    11. Honesty is always the best policy, no matter the outcome. Secrets always come out no matter how hard you work to keep them hidden. It was an ok book, I wasn't invested in the lead character, too whiny for me.

    12. Looking at this one againad another of Belva's other novels that was interesting and remember this one being about adoption. I am fully aware of what it is like to be adoptedbut what is it actually like for the mother who gives up her baby.m.

    13. I really enjoyed this book. Brings to light that nothing good comes from keeping secrets especially from those you plan to build a future with. A quick read but with a happy ending, just the way I like it:)

    14. Pleasant enough to read but not really Belva Plain's usual standard. Jennifer is keeping her daughter, adopted at birth secret and this is what happens to her life when her daughter comes looking for her. Wouldn't highly recommend.

    15. Jenny gets knocked off her feet when ehr secret comes knocking at her door. Can she face the past and carry on with her furure?

    16. A good tale about domestic violence and how a woman finally decides to make the decision to start a new life.

    17. A very light "beach read" that takes no brain power. I read this in Steamboat Springs during one of our ski vacations. Not so well written.

    18. I got the book from my colleague from the previous work place. It was battered, wrinkled with yellowing pages due to its age. I've found it interesting so far.

    19. Me pareció entretenido, pero la protagonista exageraba la idea de que se supiera su secreto. En general, una novela más.

    20. Jenny has a secret that she lets almost ruin her life because she's an insecure idiot. But you know it's all going to end happily (except for George, sorry George), so don't stress out.
