    1. The last historian was Malchus though after him came another, Candidus, and anonymous articles from the Suda. I liked Malchus and wished there were more. Zeno's son was corrupted by officials to be a drunk and a homosexual but Malchus, who must be a Xian, says he was struck down by dysentery, 'having lain unconscious, befouling his bed, for many days.' I like these personal touches. What else is good is the sufficient detail to distinguish between the two Gothic Theoderics the empire had to deal [...]
